I studied social behavior & criminal law to better understand human behavior and how social experiences play a role in our lives. According to the American Sociological Association, "Sociology is the study of our behavior as social beings, covering everything from the analysis of short contacts between anonymous individuals on the street to the study of global social processes." There are many factors that can play a role in our behavior, but one of the most powerful contributors is the dynamic between biology and sociology. There are several instances when biology can affect how environmental spaces affect us. At the same time, there are moments in which our environment can play a role in our biological development, at any age.
I find it important to analyze these various factors as they help put our world into perspective. It is an opportunity for us to explore and challenge our understanding of the social world, how we sociologically exist in it, and how we allow it to psychologically affect us. “Social psychology examines the way groups and social structures shape individuals—their perceptions, beliefs, identities, attitudes, emotions, and behaviors—and how individuals acting together create, maintain, and change social structures.” (ASA)
I have developed my creative consulting practice from the two major sectors of my career — social behavior and marketing. To a blind eye, the two may not seem very closely aligned, but it is actually quite the opposite. My unique way of studying and working with individuals on a sociological level better equips me to assist my clients in understanding their ideal audience. In order to reach your target customer, client, etc. you must understand who they are, what they like, what they are doing, and what their wants and needs are. You must understand what speaks to them and also what they essentially need from a brand to fuel their passions and desires as well. The key to a dynamic partnership between the brand and consumer is not simply what the consumer can do for the brand, but how the brand can help the consumer.
I thoroughly examine and utilize the parallel between social intelligence and creativity. One of my favorite quotes is by Albert Einstein, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.” We indulge in it in various forms. Although many simply see creativity as this innate thing that you have and solely a biological characteristic, it is much more than that. Our experiences shape our ideas and decisions, just as our environment shapes our perspective and perception. Enjoy the podcast as we dive into how our multifaceted lives develop our personality, behavior, and overall experiences.
